2. A keyboard or SSH connection.
Instructions
Set up a default network interface for Elo kiosks
On a freshly imaged kiosk, the default (always in use) interface in YaST will be set to wired. This will be the typical setup for communities. To change the default interface:
1. Attach a keyboard (or SSH) to a powered-on kiosk and
press Ctrl+Alt+F1.
2. Enter in login information. If doing this over the phone for a community,
use "networkconfig" for both the username and password.
*Enter "yast lan" in the command-line
if necessary.*
3. On the "Overview" tab, press the Tab key to highlight the
desired default interface.
4. Press Alt+i to edit the new default interface. Press the left
arrow key to navigate to the "General" tab.
5. Tab to the "Activate Device" box. Press the down arrow
key to change "Manually" to "At Boot Time" and press Enter.
6. Press Alt+n to navigate to the next window. If a wireless device was
chosen, enter in Wi-Fi settings.
7. Once back at the "Overview" tab, press the Tab
key to highlight the network interfaces, and press the down arrow to
highlight the other interface that was not chosen in Step 3. Press Alt+i
to edit the interface.
8. Press the left arrow key to highlight the "General" tab.
Press Tab to highlight the "Activate Device" box.
9. Press the down arrow and choose the option that says
"Manually." Press the Enter key to accept the change. Press Alt+n
to move to the next pane.
10. Press Alt+o to save the settings.
11. Exit the shell by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F7.
Configure network settings on interfaces
On OS Image 7.0.2 to 7.2.X, it is a requirement for the wireless network interface (wlan0) kiosk to be configured DHCP. This comes on the kiosk by default. The only thing that needs added is the wireless password, encryption type, and SSID for the wireless interface. If a community requires static IP addresses, suggest using a MAC address reservation via their DHCP network. Once settings in YaST are saved, this will bring up both interfaces, which can be viewed with "ifconfig." A reboot will fix this issue.
A static configuration may be done on the wired (eth0) interface.
Switch to the other network interface while in use
On OS Image 7.0.2 to 7.2.X, a new feature has been added that will toggle the active network interface from the kiosk's default "always in use" interface. This is so Support can ask the end user to switch the interface from wireless to the wired connection, or vice versa.
1. Attach a keyboard to the kiosk's USB hub. Press Alt+i.
A dialog window will appear and ask the user if they want to switch to the
(non-default) interface.
2. Press the "Yes" button to switch interfaces, or press
"No" to Cancel.
3. If "Yes" was selected, the dialog box with show a progress bar
along with updates to show the user it is currently working. This will also
show error messages, if any.
4. The new interface will now be active. This is only a temporary change, a
reboot will always boot the default interface selected in YaST.
