Quick Start Use nmtui to Configure Network Interfaces on OS Image 7.3.1+

Objectives

Use Network Manager's text user interface to configure network interfaces.

Prerequisites

  1. Device

  3. Networking information

Instructions

1. Switch to shell by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1. Login with "networkconfig" for both username and password.

2. nmtui will automatically load. Press Enter on "Edit a connection."

3. Highlight the connection you would like to edit. Press the Tab key until it highlights "Edit..." and press Enter.

4. Press Tab to navigate to IPv4 CONFIGURATION. If using static addressing, change this setting from "Automatic" to "Manual," otherwise "Automatic" is DHCP. Press Tab and and press Enter on "Show."

5. Press Tab to highlight "Add..." for each setting and press Enter. Fill in networking information for "Addresses," "Gateway," and "DNS servers." Use the conversion table to determine CIDR netmask notation and place the subnet mask at the end of the IP address. For example, "10.5.1.231/24" is a 255.255.255.0 netmask. Tab to "OK" when finished and press Enter.

6. Press Tab, highlight "Back" and press Enter, bringing you to the main screen. Highlight "Activate a connection" and press Enter. Active connections will have an asterix (*) at the beginning of the interface name. If there is not an asterix, press Enter on the connection to activate it.

7. Tab to "Back" and press Enter. Then press the down arrow to highlight Quit and press Enter. Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to the application.

Wireless Networks

1. Wireless networks are similar to the wired setup. Highlight the interface name and press Enter on "Edit..."
 

2. Enter in the SSID in the "SSID" filed.

3. Change the Security to what you're using, and enter in the password below. *NOTE: WPA Enterprise is not currently supported by nmtui.

4. For static addresses, press Tab and highlight "IPv4 CONFIGURATION <Automatic>" and change it to "Manual." Then  press Tab to highlight "Show" and press Enter.

 

5. Press Tab to highlight "Add..." for each setting and press Enter. Fill in networking information for "Addresses," "Gateway," and "DNS servers." Tab to "OK" when finished and press Enter.

 

 

6. Tab to "Back" and press Enter. Then press the down arrow to highlight Quit and press Enter. Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to the application.
