Boot POS-X Devices from USB

Objectives

Boot an EVO-PC4-F2UN POS-X device from a USB device such as a thumb drive in order to install a new operating system.

Prerequisites

1. USB keyboard.
2. POS-X device starting with KQ or R serial number (NOT GZ).
3. Bootable USB device such as a thumb drive with an OS image 6.X.X installer.
4. Monitor.

*Models starting with "GZ" as a serial number won't boot if re-imaged with a UEFI image, which are images greater than 4.3.3. Use https://kb.fullcount.net/documentation/imaging-evo-pc4-d2un

Instructions

  1. Shutdown the POS-X.
  2. Plug in the USB drive and the keyboard.
  3. Power on the POS-X, and press "F7" once every second until a boot device prompt appears.
  4. Choose the entry that begins with "USB HDD" and press "Enter."
  5. A menu with a FullCount logo will appear with 2 options. Choose the option that begins with "Install FullCount..."
  6. The installer will run and install the operating system. When it reboots, unplug the USB drive. The drive should now boot with the new operating system.
  7. Set the correct time zone for the community where this KDS CPU will be. Follow the directions below:
  • Type #yast timezone and press Enter.
  • Select the appropriate time zone from the list.
  • Tab to OK, and press Enter.
  1.  For Print Server OS images greater than or equal to 6.2.0, enable the BIOS option "Restore AC Power Loss."
  • Press the "Delete" key when booting.
  • Inside Setup Menu, press the "right arrow" key once to highlight "Advanced."
  • Press the "down arrow" until "Power Configuration" is highlighted and press "Enter."
  • Press the "down arrow" to highlight "Restore AC Power Loss" and press Enter. Change "Power Off" to "Power On."
  • Press "F10" to Save changes and Exit. Press Enter on "Yes" on the dialog box.
