Boot Pioneer S-Line from a USB Device

Objectives

  1. Boot an S-Line terminal from a USB device such as a thumb drive or an external DVD drive.

Prerequisites

  1. USB keyboard.
  2. Pioneer S-Line terminal.
  3. Small Phillips screw driver.
  4. Bootable USB device such as a thumb drive or an external DVD drive.

Instructions

Note:    Steps 7-12 only applies to terminals with the GM-45 chipset that were sold prior to November 2013. Newer terminals with the Atom processor will boot from USB without making any changes to BIOS settings. For new Atom processor terminals, go to Step 13 after 1-6.

***Before you begin, please take a picture or take note of current network settings of this device. Static IPs could be necessary for receipt printing or a bar terminal.***

  1. Shutdown the terminal.
  2. Tilt the monitor backwards so the screen is facing the ceiling.
  3. Remove the small Phillips screw that holds the cover on the front edge of the monitor in place.
  4. Connect a USB keyboard.
  5. Connect the USB thumb drive.
  6. Power on the terminal.
  7. Press the Delete key to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  8. Use the arrow keys to go to the “Advanced” menu.
  9. Use the arrow keys to go to “USB Configuration” and press Enter.
  10. Use the arrows keys to go to “USB Mass Storage Device Configuration” and press Enter.
  11. Press Enter to change “Emulation Type” from “Forced FDD” to “Auto”.
  12. Press the F10 key, and then press Enter when prompted to save changes and exit. The terminal will reboot.
  13. Begin pressing the F11 key about once per second. The terminal will display a menu that says “Please select boot device”.
  14. Use the arrow keys to select the USB device and press Enter. The terminal should boot from the USB device.
  15. Once the operating system is installed, the terminal will reboot. Upon reboot, instruct the customer to remove the USB drive.
