Set Static IP and Network Settings on DLI Tablets with OS

Objectives
Set wireless and wired network settings on DLI tablets.
Prerequisites

Mode (will typically be WPA-PSK)

& Passphrase
Instructions
- Place
powered-off tablet onto dock. Turn on tablet.
- After
FullCount loads, switch from the Application to a Shell (ctrl+alt+F1)
- Log in
as “networkconfig”
- Password
is “networkconfig” (this will not display anything when it is entered)
- In the
command line, type “yast lan” and hit Enter
- *NOTE
– If there are 3 interfaces showing under the “name” header, exit YaST
with Alt+c and undock the tablet. Redock the tablet and reenter
“yast lan” in the command line. There should now only be two interfaces.

to highlight the “Intel WLAN controller” network card
- Press Alt+i
(or F4) to edit the network card
- Tab
to highlight “Statically assigned IP Address” and hit space
- Enter
IP address and Subnet in appropriate fields
- Press Alt+n
- Tab
to highlight the “Network Name (ESSID)” field
- Enter
the SSID of the wireless network provided by the community
- Tab
to highlight “Passphrase” and if not selected, hit space
- Tab
to highlight “Encryption Key” field
- Enter
the Encryption Key provided by community
- *NOTE
– The characters will not be shown (appear as asterisks) while entering
the Encryption Key. Be careful to enter the correct characters
- Press Alt+n
- Press Alt+u
to get to the Routing page
- Tab
to highlight the “Routing Table” box
- Press
Alt+d
- Enter
the 0.0.0.0 in both the Destination & Genmask fields
- *NOTE
– You must clear the field of all characters. There is no overtype.
- Enter
the Default gateway in the Gateway field.
- *NOTE
– You must clear the field of all characters. There is no overtype.
- Under
the Device Field, use the arrow keys to select “eth0” and hit Enter
- Press Alt+o
- Repeat
steps 19-23 using “wlan0” as the device.
- Press Alt+s
- Enter
the DNS server information in the appropriate fields.
- Press Alt+o
to commit and save the changes.
Double Check that the Network Key was entered correctly
- From
the command line, run the command cat
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0
- The
network key will be shown at the bottom of the results
