Partner Tech tablet battery latch issue
The Problem
It is not uncommon for customers to have problems with seating the battery properly into their Partner Tech M3W rugged tablet; it is arguably a design flaw. When a customer reports symptoms such as the examples below, it could be a problem with the tablet's battery latch.
"When I remove the tablet from the dock, the tablet dies instantly"
"When I remove the charging cable from the tablet, the tablet dies instantly"
"My tablet will not power on"
When the battery latch isn't compressed the tablet enters a sleep state. This is by design as the tablet can stay "on" while its swappable battery is being replaced. The problem occurs when a battery is reinstalled but the latch doesn't compress therefore never waking up from its sleep state or eventually just dies.
Troublehooting
A dead battery should always be considered before taking the steps below.
Even if the battery isn't dead, replace the battery of your "problem tablet" with a battery from a known working tablet. See where the problem goes - does the same tablet have trouble booting off the dock with its new battery? Does the second tablet have trouble booting with the battery from the first tablet? Perhaps involve a third tablet here for more rock-solid information on what works and what doesn't.
The Work-Around
If a particular tablet does not power on no matter which battery is installed, try the following solution - fold a small strip of paper and place it over the latch and then install the battery. The paper should help create enough pressure to press the latch down and trigger the tablet out of its sleep mode. See the picture below for reference.
