How to Use Cockpit Administration GUI for OS Image 8.0.0+

Objectives


Cockpit is a utility for looking at device information as well as changing a variety of settings. FullCount's implementation includes a remote desktop client. This is a brief overview of those features.

Prerequisites


1. A remote connection to the device you want to use.

 

Instructions


*Note: Firefox is not the best browser for accessing Cockpit. Chrome or Edge are recommended.

1. Click the Cockpit link from Device Management. This will open a user login page to the device you requested.

2. Enter the username as "cockpituser" and the password as "#FullCount#Cockpit#" and press Log in.

3. The main features that Support will typically be using are Networking, Magic Mirror, and Terminal.

4. The Networking tab allows users to edit and configure network settings. For this, administrator access is required. Press the "Limited Access" button at the top of the page.

5. Enter in the normal FullCount root password and press "Authenticate"

 

6. Click the interface name of the connection you want to change.

7. Find IPv4 and click edit.

8. From here, you can change the drop-down from automatic (if on DHCP) to manual, and manually enter device information.

  • Add the IP address to the "Address" field
  • Add the subnet mask in the "Prefix length or netmask" field
  • Add the gateway in the "Gateway" field
  • Uncheck the "Automatic" checkbox for DNS and add DNS servers.
  • Click Save when done.

 

9. The Terminal tab gives you normal shell access to run commands, meaning PuTTY is no longer a requirement to run commands.

 

10. It defaults to a low level user, even when administrative mode. To access the root user for more commands type "su" and enter the FullCount root password.

 

11. Magic Mirror is our remote desktop viewer. Clicking on Magic Mirror will show another login prompt. This password is "@11ianc3"



12. From here, you can watch a user navigate the application, or take over and click buttons yourself. Both users will see the same thing.

 

 

13. You can view open/close the Support Drawer from here as well using Ctrl+Shift+Z
