How To Use Magic Wand on OS Image Version 7.5.0+

Objectives

Update FullCount OS Images to newer versions via Magic Wand.

Prerequisites

1. FullCount Device with OS Image 7.5.0+

2. A new update available

3. Device Management configured to Allow OS Updates

Instructions

  1. Configure Device Management on the device to allow for the update capability. *If Force OS Update is used, these directions will not apply and the device will automatically run the update on next boot.
  2. Once the update has been downloaded and has been verified, it will signal for Posapp to generate a new button in the Support Drawer under System Settings. This will populate when posapp is restarted or the terminal is rebooted. The update will remain available until it is installed or a new version is available.

  3. A pop-up will remind the user to remove all USB storage devices before proceeding. If they aren't, the GRUB bootloader may choose external storage to install to. Once any storage is removed, click Proceed.

  4. This will launch the actual installer. The user will not be able to do anything from here, but the installation process will update the user on different phases of the install. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes.

  5. After it reboots, the terminal should  boot into the the new operating system. Occaisonally, it will not set the correct device as the #1 boot priority and boot back into the old version. To fix this, use a keyboard to enter the BIOS, navigate to the BOOT tab and set the UEFI disk as Boot Priority #1.

  6. Now the new OS is installed with the old version available as a fallback if any problems arise.
