Subject: Setting up an SFTP Server for Your Team
Dear [Customer],
I hope this email finds you well. I'm writing to follow
up on our recent conversation about setting up an SFTP server for your team. As
discussed, I would like to provide you with a brief summary of how an SFTP
server works and the steps your team can take to get one set up.
SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is a secure method
for transferring files between computers over the internet. It is similar to
FTP (File Transfer Protocol), but it encrypts all data and commands to provide
a more secure transfer. SFTP uses SSH (Secure Shell) to establish a secure
connection between the client and server, and it requires authentication using
a username and password or SSH keys.
To set up an SFTP server for your team, you will need to
follow these basic steps:
Choose
a hosting provider: You can host your SFTP server on-premises, but it's
often easier and more secure to use a hosting provider that specializes in
SFTP hosting. Some popular options include Amazon Web Services (AWS),
Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Set
up the server: Once you have chosen a hosting provider, you will need to
create an SFTP server instance and configure it with the appropriate
settings, such as user accounts, file directories, and security protocols.
Configure
the client software: Your team members will need to use an SFTP client to
connect to the server and transfer files. Popular SFTP client software
options include FileZilla, WinSCP, and Cyberduck.
Test
the connection: Once the server and client software are configured, you
will need to test the connection to ensure that everything is working
properly.
FullCount will need the following information: Server
name, Username/Password, File Name of the data file FullCount is to absorb.
If IPs are needing to be whitelisted from the server,
FullCount will provide said IPs both for local troubleshooting/testing and also
their Test/Production servers.
If the use of PGP is requested, FullCount will provide
the public key for encrypting the file.
I hope this summary provides you with a better
understanding of how SFTP works and the steps your team can take to get one set
up. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
IPs needing whitelisted:
FullCount Offices (for local troubleshooting/testing)
167.142.26.73
72.255.89.166
208.38.228.2
FullCount Data Center (Test and Production)
Prod - 208.69.145.98
Test - 208.69.145.99, 208.69.145.217
If the customer wants to use PGP (pretty good privacy) to
encrypt their files, reach out to DEV to get the public key the customer will
use to encrypt the files.
